I created a spreadsheet which can run foreign investment scenarios and the CGT payable. You can find it here - http://dl.stealthywealth.co.za/spreadsheets/Stealthy%20Wealth%20-%20CGT-Local%20vs%20Offshore.xlsx

In an environment with low market returns and a significantly weakening currency, you can save a lot of CGT by going offshore.

Good question! :)
I usually guesstimate ~15% for pure equity and ~10-12% for balanced (i.e. inflation +9 and inflation +4-6% respectively)

Curious what rate of return you used in the calculator? That will also have an effect on the outcome.
Might be nice to have this as one of the inputs - e.g. a balanced fund (e.g. RA/Pension/Preservation) in theory will have a lower return than a pure equity fund (e.g. TFSA)

Shares / Section 12J Investing
« on: January 23, 2017, 08:41:49 am »
Just wondering if anyone on this forum has done any Section 12J Tax Deductible Investing? (Minimum amounts needed are quite steep - I am far to poor to have invested any money myself :))

I did a blog post on it (http://www.stealthywealth.co.za/2017/01/section-12j-investing.html), including an interview. And because information on the topic is a little hard to come by (in my experience) I tried to gather it all together into a website which you can check here -www.invest12j.co.za

Anyways, would love to hear if anyone has any experience in it?

Shares / New Coreshares Products
« on: October 12, 2016, 11:29:30 am »
FYI there are two new Coreshares ETF products launching towards end October:

CoreShares S&P500
CoreShares S&P Global Property

TER's will be 0.45% for the CoreShares S&P500 & 0.50% for the CoreShares Global Property (i.e. the S&P one is much cheaper than DBXUS)
